The Sweet Shoppe in Gorham, ME

February 11, 2013 Leave a comment

As other Mainers can hopefully attest, I survived the blizzard (snow apocalypse) or whatever you want to call it. So Sunday afternoon rolled around, and after being happily full from grabbing a delicious calzone at Gorham House of Pizza (GHOP) I wanted something sweet. Well, The Sweet Shoppe delivers sweet and then some. I got the vanilla cupcake, topped with vanilla (blue) frosting and some cute edible pearls.

I split it with B, my new boyfriend, which he was nice enough to buy 🙂 and 2 vanilla cokes…because they are incredibly hard to find in the can and the Sweet Shoppe sells them! Victory was mine yesterday: this was a decadent cupcake. Sweet, moist, scrumptious even..oh yes, I went there. Because you reserve scrumptious when it really means something, and this cupcake, is basically the definition in a few fantastic bites! I fully intend to stop back again, and I highly recommend others do the same!

Good Eats Boutique in Portland, ME

As a foodie, sometimes I wonder whether it can get much better than a delicious cupcake. After all, besides in Italy, you can find them everywhere. Well, Good Eats Boutique in Portland is no exception. You want a cupcake? Done and done. You want a cupcake that makes you stop in your tracks? Done. You want a cupcake with the name “Texas Sized” in the title? You’ve found the place and can stop looking.

You want this cupcake? It tasted delicious in my mouth: A Red Velvet Cupcake, special for the holidays, with a white chocolate buttercream frosting and topped with candy cane crumbles. Bet you’re all drooling now! It was moist, soft…as big as my head. Truly a fantastic cupcake.

Or maybe you’re a traditionalist when it comes to your cupcakes. No problem. Try the Carrot Cake cupcake, made with cream cheese frosting. My personal preference is the Red Velvet, but the Carrot Cake will surely please you as well.

Now just in case you don’t like cupcakes, have no fear. Good Eats Boutique also sells cakes, chocolate, fudge, cookies, pies, tarts, and many more amazing good eats! Located in Portland, and right down the street from another favorite of mine, Siano’s (see this link if you want to see my review: https://847foodie.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/sianos-pizzeria-in-portland-me/) Good Eats Boutique has a great location and many tasty treats to offer your sweet tooth and taste buds.

Bennison’s Bakery in Evanston, IL

Back home, literally, another place right down the street from me in Evanston, is this amazing bakery. http://www.bennisonscakes.com/ Literally going in there will make you gain weight. Or ogling all the delicious treats in the display windows, take your pick. Either way, if you actually order something….be prepared. It’s like a religious experience. Every pastry will be soft, sweet, and melt in your mouth good. Cupcakes amazing, cakes moist and more than satisfying. They have the best smiley face cookies! Ah, now those are decadent. You think you’ve had every face style cookie, and that they are all the same. Well, they’re not. These cookies are better. Like, you could dream up the world’s most delicious cookie, and these beat them. So good. Highly recommended! So again, if you’re in the Evanston area, check out Bennison’s. You will NOT be sorry 🙂
